The new Animal Crossing New Horizons update has made a lot of changes to the game. Part of that is the introduction of new characters in the game. There are 16 new villagers that players can potentially attract to their island.
One of the ways that players might get these characters is through the Amiibo Cards for Animal Crossing New Horizons. The series that players will need to get for these new characters is Series Five, which contains 48 different Amiibo Cards in total. These cards will go on sale on November 5.
When they release, the Series Five cards will be available through the official Animal Crossing website. They will also be available through online retailers, such as Nintendos store on Amazon. Finally, you will be able to check your local brick-and-mortar stores such as Walmart, Target, and specialist video game stores to find them.
Amiibo Cards serve a double purpose in Animal Crossing, as they allow you to not just collect the cards, but also get the villager on the card to come to your island. This is very important for lots of players, and leads to a lot of fun collecting cards and trading them with friends to get the villagers you want.
How To Use Amiibo At Harvs Island In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Amiibo arent just for big, island-shaping moves! Any time youre hanging out with Harv, you can use amiibo to bring villagers to Photopia. If youre planning on putting together a perfect snapshot, having the right subjects in the studio is a must!
When in , you can tap an amiibo at any time to bring in that villager. Certain special characters, like Isabelle and the Able Sisters, can also be summoned this way to include them in Photopia! Note that currently, some who have appeared in New Horizons before may not be scannable in this way.
Photopia has another nifty, amiibo related use. If you have any Animal Crossing Sanrio amiibo cards, by tapping those here youll not only be able to screenshot those adorable guests, but also can gain access to their special, Sanrio furniture all at once! You can read more about that in our Sanrio amiibo guide.
What Are Amiibo Cards For Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Introduced for Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Amiibo cards are a cheaper alternative to the figurines, allowing both Nintendo produce and players to collect many more of them. How many you ask? Nintendo has produced 400 Animal Crossing Amiibo Cards so far in four series. Each featuring different characters as well as outfits for favorites like Isabelle.
You can view the entire collection on Nintendos animal-crossing website by clicking here. Wed list them all out but honestly, you dont want to scroll for 20 pages. Just know that if you like a specific villager, theyre probably included. The website also lists which games the Amiibo card is compatible for, with most showing Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, and Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival. At the time of writing, the website has not been updated for Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

What Do The Animal Crossing Amiibo And Amiibo Cards Unlock In New Horizons
Essentially, the main feature of amiibo in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is to unlock those islanders in the new Photopia mode where they can be used as models in your own photoshoots.
As for the Animal Crossing amiibo cards, they will actually allow those characters you scan to be invited as residents to your island. It’s quite a way to grow the population especially with the hundreds of amiibo cards that are available to collect!
For more info, our pals over at Eurogamer have a comprehensive guide on the Animal Crossing: New Horizons amiibo support. Wed encourage you to check that out for a more detailed breakdown of how and where they’re used in-game.

Along with these existing NPCs, the amiibo cards will account for the three NPCs being introduced in Animal Crossing: New Horizons DLC. New Horizons Villager Amiibo Cards
New Horizons original villagers, including Sherb, Megan, Raymond, and more, will be getting their own cards. Thankfully, stock is being refreshed at multiple retailers–you can pre-order the Isabelle Amiibo from Best Buy and Target for its standard $16 price tag, though it won’t arrive until April 17. Other Amiibo are also available for pre-order at Best Buy, if you’re willing to wait a month or so.

Apollo: Amiibo Series 3 Card 297
Apollo is a cool Eagle. He may be cranky but we still want him on our island. The bald eagle not only looks magnificent but he also has a super stylish home and a lot of personality, even if it is somewhat hostile at times.
While not always being the easiest to get along with hes the perfect patriotic addition to any island. His birthday is on July 4th, hes the USs national bird and hes named after a Greek God.
How To Get Started With Animal Crossing Amiibo
Here are some of the new villagers included in the 2.0 update!
Series 5 releases on Nov. 5, 2021, alongside the free 2.0 update and the Happy Home Paradise paid DLC. Players can use amiibo cards at Harvey’s Photopia on his special island to call villagers and NPCs to the Roost café located in the museum, to build vacation homes in the Happy Home Paradise archipelago, and to invite villagers to your island’s campsite.
It’s worth noting that series 5 Animal Crossing amiibo cards will not work with Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer on the Nintendo 3DS, or Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival on the Wii U. Scanning incompatible amiibo cards into a game that doesn’t support them could cause your game to crash and/or save data to be corrupted. Only use this series of amiibo with Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the Nintendo Switch.
If you’re purchasing amiibo cards on the secondhand market, be wary of people who may be selling homemade amiibo cards, which are usually printed on PVC plastic in the shape of an amiibo card and include an NFC chip containing the amiibo data for your respective villager. While homemade amiibo will technically work on your island, you don’t want to fall for a scam where you pay scalper prices for something that isn’t even genuine. After all, some amiibo can be quite expensive to purchase secondhand, so you want to make the best purchase always.

How To Use Amiibo To Obtain Villagers
You unlock the campsite as part of Animal Crossing New Horizons Story, where you upgrade the island and unlock more parts of it at the beginning of the game. The campsite is unlocked right after you upgrade Resident Services to a full-fledged building.
To bring an amiibo to the campsite, you must:
That villager will then visit your campsite. You must then go to the campsite and, over the course of the next few days, convince them to live at your island by doing tasks for them. You will need to scan them in every day for 3 days minimum.
Bear in mind that when inviting a camper to become a villager, youll need to make sure you have less than 10 villagers, and that an open plot for a home has been built and lays dormant. I recommend buying this plot on the same day that you scan in the amiibo the first time. It takes one day to build the plot, and that gives you a one-day cushion in case you miss a day of scanning in the amiibo.
How To Use Amiibo In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
There you have it. As long as you have either the Animal Crossing amiibo figurines or the amiibo cards, youll be able to invite characters into your game by merely scanning the NFC chips. Remember that the cards are more useful when it comes to getting the villagers you want to live on your island, although the figurines are just too cute to pass up.
Enjoy your game! I hope youre able to get all of the villagers you want to come to your island.
