Is Buying Turnips Risky
Despite the stock market associations, the Stalk Market is a fairly low-risk, low-reward investment.
With the biggest risk accidentally letting the Turnips rot instead of price drops.
Investing and selling Turnips requires some work and prediction, but you can lower the risk and maximize profits by travelling to another player’s island and selling there.
How Turnips Work In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Every Sunday, most players’ minds will turn to Animal Crossing: New Horizons turnips, thanks to the arrival of an NPC called Daisy-Mae. These vegetables aren’t for growing though, as they’re actually the game’s version of a stock market of sorts – aka the stalk market.;
On Sundays, you buy turnips for one price, and then you aim to sell them before the next Sunday rolls around – hopefully for a higher price than you paid for them. Each day, the Nook nephews will buy turnips from you at a different price. It’s then a gamble as to when you sell them – and what size profit you make.;

Buying And Selling Turnips On Switch Explained
Every Sunday morning, a wandering vendor named Daisy Mae will appear around your town square. Daisy Mae will sell you Turnips, but the price is variable. One week she may be selling them for 100 Bells, but the next week she may be selling them for 150 Bells.
You can buy as many Turnips as you want . Once you have the Turnips, the idea is to sell them for more than you paid.
Every day , Timmy and Tommy in Nooks Cranny will tell you the current price of Turnips. The price actually changes twice a day .
An example: Lets say you bought 100 Turnips from Daisy Mae for 100 Bells each. Youve made a 10,000 Bell investment. Now if Timmy and Tommy happen to be buying Turnips for 150 Bells each, selling them your Turnips will net you 5,000 Bells in profit.
These numbers can scale up into the hundreds of thousands of Bells, resulting in some enormous paydays.
But theres always a risk of taking a big loss. If you buy at 100 Bells per Turnip and the Nooks Cranny price never goes above 50 Bells, youre going to take a loss. Thats just the way it goes.
Important: Whatever you do, do not hold onto the Turnips until the following Sunday. When Daisy Mae arrives in your town again, the Turnips you bought the following week will be spoiled and worthless. Taking a 50% loss with a bad Nooks Cranny price is better than losing the whole investment.
Important thing 2: You cant use house storage to store Turnips. If you go HARD on Turnips, youre likely going to have to fill a room with them.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Most Frustrating Task Is Buying Turnips
Although buying and selling turnips can help players turn a profit in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the game doesn’t make it very accessible.
Buying and selling turnips in Animal Crossing: New Horizonsis meant to be a challenging, yet rewarding, activity that mimics the real-life stock market. But New Horizons;doesnt seem to want to make it easy for players to participate.
Essentially, players can buy turnips from Daisy Mae every Sunday for a set price, and then they have a week, until the following Sunday, in order to sell them. The adorable NPC replaced her grandmother, Joan, in Animal Crossing:;New Horizons, who was in charge of turnip selling in previous generations of the Animal Crossing franchise.
The goal is to sell the turnips at a higher price in order to turn a profit, but since Animal Crossing: New Horizons’;turnip;prices fluctuate at a moments notice, it adds a challenging layer. But if players know how to play their cards ahem, turnips right, then the gamble can be well worth the reward.

When To Sell Your Turnips
If youve made a big investment in Turnips and want to ensure that you make a large profit from selling them, its time to get a notepad out. Turnip prices are not completely random and theres actually a way to predict when the highest prices will happen, so long as you write down every one of your Turnip prices for the week.
Its time to get to know the four possible Turnip price trends: , Random, Small Spike and Big Spike.
Note: This is how it worked in Animal Crossing: New Leaf and in our early testing it seems to work the same way in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. But, as always, Turnip buyers beware, as its possible that the developers threw a couple curveballs in here.
Youll know your Turnip prices are on a Decreasing Trend if they start out low and just keep getting slightly lower throughout the week. Usually prices will start out around 80 or 90, but each price update will drop that by 5 or 10 Bells. By the end of the week, the price will be in the absolute toilet.
If youve been tracking every price and theyve all followed this pattern by Thursday afternoon, youll know that youre on a Decreasing Trend and should either sell immediately or find a friend to visit with better prices.
A sample week of prices for the Decreasing Trend would be:
Monday – 85 / 81
What Is The Stalk Market
Throughout the week, players can visit Timmy and Tommy to learn how much they are purchasing Turnips for, with the price changing every morning and afternoon. The idea of the Stalk Market is simple and is designed after the most basic principles of a real Stock Market: buy low, sell high.
Turnips can be sold every day of the week except Sunday, which is when players can stock up for the following week. The idea is to purchase Turnips and then find the best time to sell them at a profit, though in some cases the prices might plummet, meaning that there will be a loss, just like a real stock market.

When You Should Sell Your Turnips For The Most Money
To state the obvious, you always want to sell your Turnips to Timmy & Tommy for more than you purchased them for from Daisy Mae on Sunday. Its not a bad idea to make a personal note of what price you bought at, so you dont accidentally dip into the negative.
The Turnip Stalk Market strategy ultimately comes down to how much risk you are willing to take if you see a 150 price on Tuesday, do you take it and gain a small profit, or risk holding out for an even greater price later in the week?
Based on information recovered from the games code, the highest sell price that can be reached in Animal Crossing: New Horizons through legitimate play is 660 Bells, although it is exceptionally rare to reach such a high.
On the other hand, the lowest possible sell price can reach a painful single-digit 9 Bells. Of course, these maximum and minimum prices canÂ; be adjusted through hacking, but they are the organic limits of turnips.
Tips & Tricks To To Lower Risk & Always Profit From Turnips
While its impossible to guarantee yourself a profit and avoid all possible losses when playing the Stalk Market in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, there are a few extra tricks to increase your chances of success.
Work Together With Friends
The number one way to always beat the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Stalk Market and avoid finding yourself in trouble is work together with some friends, and the more the merrier! While your own islands Turnip sell prices may be poor during the week, each and every individual island has its own price.
So if you check in with your friends all week long to see what their prices are, your chances of at least someone you know including yourself having a profitable sell price increases dramatically!
Selling turnips at a friends island couldnt be simpler either just head over to the Airport, visit their island, and head over to their Nooks Cranny to begin selling. Of course, youll need to stuff your inventory full of all your Turnips and this may require multiple trips if you purchased a lot.
And remember, if you do make a massive profit at another players island, its considered polite to leave a small tip of Bells if you can for their time. We usually try and tip about 5% of our total profits if possible!
Sell Only Some of Your Turnips Early
Another way to minimize potential losses in the Stalk Market is to be smart and hedge your bets by selling a partial amount of your Turnips earlier on during the week.

How To Store Turnips
If you bought an abundance of turnips, you may be wondering where to put them. Well, you can’t put them in your house inventory, but you can just leave them on the floor. Yes, really, just leave them on the floor in your house until you want to sell.
Alternatively, if you’re not inviting friends over or sharing a Dodo Code, you can also just drop them in open places outside or on the beaches. Just remember: if someone comes to visit, they can pick up your turnips. You could, of course, build a fully enclosed fence around your outdoor turnip storage, too.
Sell When You Have Pattern 2 Or 4
The best times to sell Turnips is when you hit the Spike of either the Sudden or Slow Spike price patterns!
The best of the two is the Sudden Spike, but since the weekly patterns are mostly random and a matter of luck, it takes a long time to predict when it will happen.
Pattern 2 and 4
|4. Slow Spike|

Where To Find & Sell Animal Crossing New Horizons Turnips
To find and sell Turnips in Animal Crossing New Horizons, you first have to build the second shop on the island, called Nooks Cranny. We cover that in detail in our How to Get 30 Iron Nuggets for New Shop guide. After the shop is complete, youll start finding the turnip vendor, Daisy Mae, on your island on Sunday mornings. You can read more about her and how she works in our When Can I Find Daisy Mae in Animal Crossing New Horizons guide.
Each week, Daisy will offer turnips at different prices, and anything thats 100 Bells or under is absolutely worth the purchase. Try and fill up your inventory with turnips as much as you possibly can. Then, on Monday at 8 AM, head to Nooks Cranny and speak with Timmy and Tommy. Theyll offer to buy turnips from you at a certain price. The price changes twice every day, at 8 AM and at noon, and you can sell your turnips every day except Sunday. This is what the game calls the Stalk Market.
The prices Timmy and Tommy offer for turnips varies drastically, apparently somewhere from 15 to 800 Bells. The golden area is around 250 Bells, because it will rarely go above that. So, remember to check in at Nooks Corner twice a day, and sell, sell, sell those turnips when you gauge the price is right.
How To Sell Turnips In Animal Crossing New Horizons
Daisy Mae wont be back at your island until next Sunday morning, so youll be selling your turnips to Timmy and Tommy in Nooks Cranny.
That being said, there are a few things to keep in mind. For one, they wont buy them from you on Sundays, so keep them somewhere safe for at least a day.
The second thing you need to know is that the selling price of turnips changes daily. It is possible that if you bought turnips for 100 bells on Sunday, they could be selling for 50 bells at Nooks Cranny on Monday. However, since the price fluctuates, they might sell for 500 bells on Tuesday.
The prices are completely random, but they seem to range between about 25 bells and 800 bells. You will want to wait for a day during the week when the selling price is higher than what you bought them for. Remember: buy low, sell high!
Heres the risky part: you only have one week to sell the turnips because they will rot on Saturday night. That means if you waited too long for a high price, you will end up with nothing. Sometimes its better to sell them at a loss to avoid that happening.
The selling prices can be random, but its a good idea to look for patterns. If you notice the prices slowly increasing throughout the week, there is a good chance the price could crash the next day.
