Why Is Animal Crossing Fun

What Happens In Animal Crossing

Why is Animal Crossing Fun? – Nintendrone

The game begins with customizing your characters look and feel hair color, clothing, facial features, and more. From there, you move to a deserted island to make it a home and build a community. The game then unfolds in real-time and even mirrors the seasons of whatever hemisphere youve chosen!

On your island, there are countless things to do so many, in fact, that the game was built to be playable for years. There are weeds to pull, fruit to pick from trees, and fish to catch from rivers. Performing these activities earns you currency called bells and Nook miles that you can spend on upgrades to your clothing, tools, furniture, and house.

You can also make friends with the adorable anthropomorphic creatures that are your neighbors. Animal Crossing is whats called an open-world game, which means that theres no set course of what you have to do or where you must go. If you want to spend time farming, you can. And if you want to concentrate on just talking to characters and making friends, you can do that too! Its entirely up to you.

A Quest For Perfection

If you’re the type of person who likes to commit to one single game for long periods of time, New Horizons is a dream. If you like to play multiple games at once or, God forbid, juggle gaming time with reading or binge watching, it’s a waking nightmare.

A colorful, cheerful waking nightmare, which substitutes a grotesque Freddy Kruger monster for an enterprising raccoon named Tom Nook. But a nightmare nonetheless.

Animal Crossing doesn’t really have an end. At a certain point, you’re given an island rating and tasked with improving it to attract more villagers. So you can get a 5-star island, the highest rating on the scale, but does that mean you won Animal Crossing? I don’t know.

In some ways, it’s not actually a game, more like an exercise in sculpting. Animal Crossing gives you a ton of clay, sometimes literally, and a set of tools. Then it lets you do whatever you want.

Tom Nook, the aforementioned nightmare raccoon in the guise of a thrifty real estate agent, gives you various missions, many of which revolve around Bells, a type of island money. Each day you’ll also be given a set of tasks to complete, like collect 10 pieces of wood or 20 clumps of weed, in exchange for Nook Miles, the other type of island money. All of this is fun but, since the game is more about creativity than completing objectives, these are essentially tutorials.

Great.

Why Dont They Make This Type Of Game More Often

Martijn van der Meulen says its hard to make a seemingly simple game like Animal Crossing and have people genuinely care about it.

Animal Crossing has charming characters and a rich world with lots to do. Building a game that your players want to invest their time in takes some careful balancing. Its also a huge project. When you think about all the mechanics in Animal Crossing, theyre all minigames that have had tons of thought and effort to make them fun. Its a big risk to try and succeed in this genre.

Eline Muijres agrees that games like this are deceptively complicated. My guess is that because the replay value is so high, its hard to top existing games. These games have long development times and are complex to make it might not be worth the risk for most developers. She says its especially risky for smaller indie developers who dont make free-to-play games.

Sam Sharma thinks there are two major reasons why these games are few and far between.

Its possible that the data on building and farming games suggest that the audience size for them is such that the peak of the market hits every three or four years or so. He adds that the low rate at which these games come out helps to ensure that the audience stays large enough and hungry enough for the next one to get popular.

Dennis van den Broek disagrees its a rare genre he says theyre just on different platforms, with different revenue models.

Positive Aspects Of Playing

Why is Animal Crossing Fun?

There are several positive benefits of playing Animal Crossing. Firstly, the games entire mechanics revolve around text exchanges, so even though your child is playing a video game, theyre doing a lot of reading more so than in most titles. They also get to flex their creative muscle by customizing their wardrobes, landscaping, and even how they arrange the items in their house. Lastly, the games primary message revolves around the importance of building your community. You not only help other characters make decisions, but you also have to consider how your own decisions can help benefit the community as a whole. The best part? When you reach a big milestone, all of your animal neighbors gather to celebrate your achievement!

You Are Tom Nook’s Indentured Servant

Since day one, players have seen through Tom Nook’s adorable facade and called him out on what he really is: a greedy capitalist who views you as nothing more than a source of labor. When you first set foot into Animal Crossing‘s universe, it’s Tom Nook who conveniently shows up with a home in exchange for working at his store. If you manage to get out from under your mortgage, Tom Nook ensures you’re never really free by expanding said home without your permission.

And think about what you’ll be doing in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Tom Nook is offering you a vacation package to a deserted island, where you and your animal friends will camp at first, but eventually build a functioning town with modern amenities. That new town will be built on the backs of those who are supposed to be on vacation. And Tom Nook? Tom Nook will reap most of the benefits. Tom Nook will be making money on his vacation package, and by selling you everything you need to transform your new home into something more habitable.

And you? You’ll be working hard to make it all possible, none the wiser that Tom Nook has duped you for probably the sixth or seventh time.

Store Items In Your Home

This isnt actually something New Horizons lets players make use of right away, unfortunately, so dont get your hopes up. That said, gaining access to in-home storage is as simple as upgrading your tent into a proper home. Once Nook has been paid his initial 5000 Nook Miles, villagers can then take out a 98,000 Bell loan to upgrade their house.

Wait the traditional day and your brand new house will be built. Once inside, pressing right on the D-Pad will access the in-home storage. Frankly, its incredibly generous and makes it very easy to horde. Not just that, storage has practical purposes like actually storing away materials you may want to use for crafting down the road.

You Can Drop Wasp Nests On Your Villagers But It Won’t Save You

We’ve covered a lot of cute villager behavior. But let’s be honest, some of our Animal Crossing villagers literally deserve to die In those instances, when the perfect conditions arise, you can actually drop a fat ol’ wasp nest on their head.

But jokes on you because you’re still the one who gets fucked over anyway!

What Is Animal Crossing And Why Is It So Special

Why is Animal Crossing So Much Fun…? – Jakstalgia

For someone whos had no exposure to the Animal Crossing series, it can be difficult to describe exactly what type of game it is. Harder still is to make it sound as appealing as all fans find the game to be. Its a life simulation game, but its not comparable to The Sims. Designing a room in Fantasy Life is reminiscent of Animal Crossing, but the rest of the game has minimal similarities. Even Harvest Moon, a game that is often recommended to those who love Animal Crossing, still doesnt possess the same game play and magic. Although a hard sell on paper, its unique community-based tasks and relaxing mechanics has managed to strike a chord with its player base since its inception.

When you first enter your town in Animal Crossing, you soon find that youre the only human in a village full of animals. Youre never given a precise goal to achieve in the game, but you still have plenty of hobbies to take up and neighbors to befriend. Players can go fishing, catch bugs, and dig up fossils to donate to the museum . You have a home to renovate both by increasing size and adding new rooms, as well as decorating the interior. But all of the game mechanics and fun things you can do in the game arent what makes Animal Crossing, Animal Crossing. Writing a what you can do list makes the game seem almost like a chore simulator, hardly something that would keep you enthralled. Yet the game is renowned for its charm, and keeps you sinking more hours into it every day.

Isabelle Also Does All Sorts Of Cute Things

Sadly, Tom Nook seems to keep Isabelle trapped in a never-ending 24-hour workday. Unionize Isabelle you deserve basic human rights.

But in the meantime, everyone’s favorite assistant can often be seen toiling away the hours of her endless shift in the most adorable ways. She’ll exercise in the afternoon, chug coffee at night, sniff the flowers on her desk, accidentally fall asleep in the chair directly across from her boss.

Perhaps cutest of all, though: She looks out the window to catch meteor showers whenever one is happening on your island. Urgh. She’s perfect. Never change, Isabelle.

Dr Shrunk Is In A Very Unhappy Marriage

Dr. Shrunk is the resident psychiatrist/comedian in Animal Crossing, and while he’s not all that funny, his wisecracks typically fall on the lighthearted side. He’s a walking, talking dad joke if there ever was one, but one of his routines in Animal Crossing: City Folk is actually pretty soul crushing. It will make your heart ache for the doc, and you’ll feel bad about not being more supportive of his comedy career.

“Did you know that love makes everything nicer,” Dr. Shrunk begins, starting everyone off with warm fuzzy feelings. “So let me tell you about my wife! She used to be the sweetest girl in the whole wide world!”

Aww, that’s so … wait. She used to be? As in she’s not now?

“But these days,” Dr. Shrunk continues, “the missus says things like … ‘Get a REAL job, Shrunk!’ ‘Your jokes make people feel QUEASY!'”

Dr. Shrunk then puts on the saddest face as he makes his despair felt.

“Yep, the missus really knows how to make me feel small …”

The doc goes on to say that’s why he loves his wife, but you can see the Stockholm Syndrome in the man’s eyes. He’s married to a woman who not only doesn’t love him anymore, but can’t stand him. It’s a sour dose of reality that most people probably play video games to get away from, but you probably shouldn’t tell Dr. Shrunk that he sounds like he’s miserable enough as it is.

Catch Turtles In The River

In Animal Crossing, players can fish anytime they want and different fish come out at different times of day. Some fish are available all day long, such as the bitterling, crucian carp, carp, and the goldfish. Other creatures come out either day or night. According to Nintendo Life, there are 80 fish available for catching in New Horizons.

Rare fish, like the great white shark and oarfish, can also turn up. Turtles, on the other hand, can be found in the river. They are available for catching during specific times and months.

Top 5 Nintendo Switch Games with JustLoveE

Remember Mr. Resetti? The mole with serious anger issues who blows a gasket if you dont save properly? He apparently scared the living daylights out of younger layers as revealed in an interview with Animal Crossing: New Leafs project leader Aya Kyogoku alongside Nintendos former president, the late Satoru Iwata.

We really werent sure about Mr. Resetti, as he really divides people, Kyogoku said. Some people love him, of course, but there are others who dont like being shouted at in his rough accent.

It seems like younger female players, in particular, are scared,Iwata agreed. Ive heard that some of them have even cried.

To make things less scary in Animal Crossing: NewLeaf, Resetti only appears if you have first built the Reset Surveillance Center or if you purposely dont save.

The Only Saving Grace Is The Option To Visit Your Real

But if I log on and none of my friends are playing, there is literally nothing I want to do. The game relies heavily on its social aspects without other human players its world is lifeless, dead, and repetitive.

Even those social aspects are hard to access. Playing with friends requires you to be in the same physical location or have the Nintendo Online subscription, which costs an extra $3.99 a month. If your internet service is anything but flawless, it’s also prone to booting friends off your island unexpectedly. And even if all those things go well, you still need to navigate several dialogue boxes and watch unskippable cinematics just to get one friend on land.

My friend Chris, who has put so many hours into the game he refused to give me a definite count, says that at a certain point “Animal Crossing” becomes less of a resource-management game and more of “a game about creativity/customization.” That’s fine if you’re a zen hoarder or want to re-create weird rooms that appear in “Twin Peaks,” but for $60 I expected much more than a slightly more interactive Myspace page.

Nintendo’s Attempts At Reviving Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Status

After witnessing the community’s massive disappointment after E3 2021, Nintendo made several feeble attempts at reviving players’ interest in the game through some updates. However, most events and items in these updates were simply those that had been featured in the game earlier, making it unappealing to veterans of the title, although it was inclusive for newer players.

Nintendo recently released the 1.11.0 update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, with many new items such as food items and other events that the community has demanded for quite some time. While this was not the big update the community wanted, it was still better than nothing. However, even with this update, players were not satisfied since it was full of glitches.

Soon after, the developers released update 1.11.1, which did not add too many new items in the game, but it got rid of the glitches ruining the gameplay experience for players.

Animal Crossing World

Even though Nintendo is beginning to show considerable effort to revive New Horizons, players aren’t thoroughly convinced about these efforts. The general consensus is that the Japanese organization needs to add a lot more features to make the game interesting enough for gamers to pick it up again.
