What Time Can I Play Animal Crossing
The game will unlock at 12 a.m. ET on March 20. Translating that timing to other locations, that means some North American players will be lucky enough to technically start playing it on March 19, 2020. Players on the West Coast will be able to escape to their very own island paradise at 9 p.m. PT on March 19.
Ahead Of Animal Crossing: New Horizons Announcement Content
You couldnt escape Animal Crossing: New Horizons in the early days of the pandemic. Millions of people newly stuck inside retreated to their own island paradise to stave off boredom and, as weeks of self-isolation and limited contact stretched into months, to find some sense of normalcy. People got married in-game, kids went trick-or-treating, players threw birthday parties, and celebrities and politicians inevitably got in on the craze. But by the end of 2020, the excitement had dimmed considerably. New Horizons stopped making headlines and, for a lot of people, seemed to fall off the face of the Earth.
As many frustrated Animal Crossing fans will tell you, there are several reasons for that. For one, it hasnt seen a major update in over half a year. Thats just the beginning of a very, very long list of grievances that have gone unaddressed since the games release in March 2020.
Animal Crossing is a long-running series of social simulation games from Nintendo that use your game consoles internal clock to progress in real-time. As the towns only human resident, you cultivate a community of anthropomorphic animal villagers. In the franchises latest entry, New Horizons, your reign expands to that of an entire island.

Game Mechanics And Concepts
The developers made sure to make the game not only welcoming new players but to also retain core concepts from the previous games to keep older fans of the series happy. A crafting system was implemented to allow the player to keep the player from running out of things to do after the in-game stores close. She mentioned how the D.I.Y. crafting system would keep players in theme with the game by interacting and using the natural environment to their advantage. Kyogoku took note of players who began playing Animal Crossing games via mobile apps, such as Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, by implementing the Nook Miles feature which would show the player what kinds of activities and concepts they can achieve by rewarding them to do so. The Nook Miles system also rewards the player for doing common tasks and collecting materials that would sell for cheap to keep the player from only tediously searching out expensive materials. Furniture and clothing accessibility and customization were emphasized for multiplayer so players could show pride in their islands.
Animal Crossing Offers Never
The simulation-style game, developed and published by Nintendo, allows players the chance to create their own versions of paradise on a deserted island inhabited solely by animals. Once their customizable character names their island and establishes a small village within, theyre free to build elaborate homes, tend gardens, fish, throw parties, and converse with their always-kind animal neighbors. The graphics are soft and bright, and the concept of the game is simple if you want to catch bugs, you catch bugs. If you want to dig for buried treasure or interesting fossils, you start digging. It doesnât have an end.

Tiktok Has Embraced Animated Characters In The Past
Because TikTok bounces from trend to trend quickly, this is not the first time that many users have embraced an animated or video game character. In the past, there have been trends relating to characters from Dragon Ball Z, as well as uses of things like the anime filter.
As the platform has grown, TikTok has become a safe place for people with a wide variety of interests to co-mingle and meet other people who have the same interests. Some TikTok users may not care at all about an Egyptian cat from a video game who now shows up in their feed. That’s alright, though. Not every part of TikTok is the same, and that’s part of what makes it great.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a 2020 life simulation game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch it is the fifth main game in the Animal Crossing series. In New Horizons, the player controls a character who moves to a deserted island after purchasing a getaway package from Tom Nook, playing the game in a nonlinear fashion and developing the island as they choose. They can gather and craft items, customize the island, and form it into a community of anthropomorphic animals.
According to the developers, New Horizons began development in 2012. The game director, Aya Kyogoku, had the philosophy of retaining old content from previous games to keep fans happy while also making the game simple enough to appeal to newcomers. With art and graphics, they used the concept of “trigger of play” and the “imagination gap”, where the former kept the gameplay simplistic and easy to pick up while the latter kept the art style simple for the player to imagine the rest.

It Gives You Big And Small Goals To Work Toward
New Horizons also has a great system of putting goals in front of the player.
If you ever feel lost or confused about what to do next, you can go ask Tom Nook. Hell point you toward some goal that you can work toward that will unlock more aspects of the game.
Early on, these goals are very simple and manageable. These include crafting your first tools, picking home locations for villagers, and getting enough Nook Miles to pay your moving fees.
They then get progressively more complex and larger scale. Youll have to collect specific materials to craft certain pieces of furniture for some of the new villagers you invite to the island. Or youll have to get a huge set of materials to help Tom Nooks capitalist nephews build their first shop.
In a later quest, youll have to improve the overall look and feel of your town by adding infrastructure and decor. On my island, Ive added some bridges and a ramp up to the higher elevations. I also built a playground on the beach with a jungle gym, slides, and rocking horses. Eventually, Ill improve the appeal of my town enough to attract a very special guest.

When And How Animal Crossing Started
In its primordial days, it was called Doubutsu no Mori and the main goal was to gather fruit, catch fish and insects, to then sell and pay the house loan.
The idea came from Katsuya Eguchi who simply wanted to replicate the loneliness he felt when he was forced to move to Kyoto after joining Nintendo in 1986.
Much like all of the people currently under lockdown, Katsuya learned to value the time spent with his friends and family.
The first Animal Crossing was published in 2001 and then, after a few ups and downs and some spinoffs, Nintendo published Animal Crossing New Horizons, a game that allows people to feel that sense of community, either with the villagers or with their friends and family via online play.
This might be one of the reasons why it is so popular right now. It helps self-isolation feel less lonely.

If you want to be reductive, sure. But Animal Crossing really is only as hard as you make it. If it’s your first time and you’re just learning the ropes then maybe you’ll spend more of your time trying to pay off your house, maybe you’ve owned a couple versions of Animal Crossing before and this time you’re determined to catch\ every single fish or maybe you’ve grown bored of the vanilla Animal Crossing experience and you’re going to instead devote your time to figuring out how to make a 1:1 scale recreation of the apartment in Fraiser in you’re own home.
It’s also worth noting that the Animal Crossing franchise is now roughly 19 years old so there is an added nostalgia factor to the ongoing hype. People who grew up and fell in love with the game and its characters have become or are becoming adults at the moment. Dealing with a global pandemic, economic collapse and crushing student loans, you really can’t fault people for wanting to escape a little to world where things are much simpler.

A Once In A Generation Title
Youll need a Nintendo Switch to play Animal Crossing: New Horizons. You can buy a physical copy of the game online or on your Switch. The previous game, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, is available for the Nintendo 3DS.
A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to interact with other people online.
New Horizons offers a chance to escape stress, if only for a few hours a day. Seasoned Animal Crossing fans and newcomers alike can take solace in one of the most relaxing gaming experiences ever.
Doing Everything Gets You A Reward
But New Horizons doesnt just rely on a strong start and then guided goals to keep people playing. It also has a wonderful moment-to-moment reward system with the new Nook Miles program.
This is a secondary currency that is separate from bells. You still earn bells by foraging and selling things in the store. Nook Miles, however, are a reward for doing everything else.
Everything you do in New Horizons will contribute to filling up meters in your Nook Miles app on your Nook Phone. Water 10 flowers, and youll earn some Nook Miles. Youll also get some for chopping down trees, fishing, and talking to your neighbors.
These are things that people do in Animal Crossing anyhow. But New Horizons incentivizes players with tangible rewards. because of this, Ive found myself doing things like managing a flower garden. Thats something I would have skipped in previous games, but now I get something out of it. But I also get Nook Miles for fishing, which is something I always love in Animal Crossing.
Eventually, youll unlock daily Nook Miles challenges that come with bonus multipliers. So even as you move past the first two tiers of catching fish and have to wait to get a bonus until you catch 500 or more, youll get a smaller challenge that will reward you for catching five fish before the end of the day.
Nook Miles makes it so you are always working toward something, and that makes everything in the game more enjoyable.

Why Is Animal Crossing: New Horizons So Dang Popular
So we all know Animal Crossing: New Horizons is hugely popular but like, crazy popular and has been embraced by regular gamers, casual gamers, and even non-gamers alike since its release on March 20. But seeing as its never enough for humans to be satisfied with mere observations, we want to know why things are things. So, lets have a think about why New Horizons is so super loved by pretty much everyone under the sun.
The game has a pretty simple core gameplay loop: you get a basic dwelling and Tom Nooks loan, theres a currency in the form of Bells, you upgrade your house using the Bells you earn. Sure, theres a wide range of activities you can carry out like fishing and collecting fruit and seashells but these are all still pretty basic things. So where does the magic lie?
Well, its actually in this exact simplicity that the magic lies. The general consensus among players of New Horizons is that its so wonderfully relaxing. Its an escape as most games are but a soothing escape. From the soft pastel colors and the charming character and level designs, to the games gradual pacing and adorable accompanying music. It all just feels like a warm hug, and a welcomed respite from the chaotic state of the world right now.
How Do You Play It
Animal Crossing is an open world simulation game, meaning that there is no one “right” way to play it, letting you decide what goals you want to achieve and at what pace you want to do so. With each progressive version of the game there have been some slight tweaks as to how one goes about this, but the Animal Crossing’s gameplay typically consists of things like catching bugs and fish, plating trees and flowers, talking to your neighbors and decorating your own house in order to grow and improve your pastoral little town.
One of the big features and draws of the initial game was that Animal Crossing plays out in real time. The original Gamecube version even included a tiny internal clock embedded into the the cartridge so that the time of day and even the seasons would play out just like they would in the real world. This made it so that players had to come back to the game over multiple days and at different times if they wanted to have a chance of beating it.

The A button makes all the characters display the reaction youve set them up to do. Once you have everything set up the way you like, press A, and start taking photos.

What Makes Animal Crossing An Addictive Game
I have loved Animal Crossing since the GameCube version first appeared in 2004, and it’s easily one of my favorite game series of all time. I’ve played all of the versions, for months and months on end, and I think there are a number of reasons why Animal Crossing ends up being so addictive.
Open-Endedness – First of all, I think Animal Crossing draws people in because of its open world style. You control how your town turns out, how your character dresses, the house you build, and what you do in the game. Feel like deep sea diving? You can do that. Want to capture all of the bugs in the game? That’s an option too. Into landscaping? That exists too. You can even fish in a ballerina outfit
World Persistence – One of the major appealing points of the game is the persistent world, which exists whether you are in it or not. Time passes on par with the real world, with new content introduced each day in the form of fossils to dig up, items to purchase, and more. If you neglect the game for an extended period of time, your animal villagers will notice and become concerned.
Multiplayer Gameplay – Animal Crossing has always been fun with more than one person, and New Leaf adds to that by allowing players to play mini games together on the game’s island, which can be a lot of fun. It’s also fun to meet up with people, explore their towns, and speak with their villagers.
